Three York County food establishments received B grades during Oct. 14–19 inspections, including a Clover restaurant cited for improper food temperatures and other violations. A Fort Mill restaurant returned to an A grade following corrective action.

The South Carolina Department of Agriculture conducted 56 food establishment inspections in York County from Oct. 14 through Oct. 19, resulting in 53 A grades and three B grades.

The lowest score was recorded at Taverna Italian American Bistro in Clover, which received a B with 81 points during an Oct. 15 routine inspection. Inspectors documented improperly refrigerated food, raw eggs stored above ready-to-eat products and dead cockroaches in the kitchen.

Two other establishments received B grades during follow-up inspections: Shriti & Rudravi Clover LLC, with 97 points, and Fort Mill Family Restaurant, with 99 points. Fort Mill Family Restaurant returned to an A with 100 points on Oct. 16.

Taverna cited for multiple food-safety violations

Taverna Italian American Bistro, at 4547 Charlotte Hwy., Suite 104, in Clover, received a B with a score of 81. Inspectors found food in a preparation cooler above the required 41 degrees Fahrenheit, including eggs at 57 degrees, rice at 48 degrees, tomatoes at 56 degrees, and tuna and meatloaf at 61 degrees. The report also stated that the cooler could not maintain proper refrigeration temperatures.

Additional findings included raw eggs stored above ready-to-eat food, several dead cockroaches in the kitchen, improperly thawed food, unlabeled chemical spray bottles and expired sanitizer test strips. Inspectors also noted dirty and rusted shelving in a walk-in cooler and damaged flooring.

Several violations, including improper cold holding, raw egg storage and chemical labeling, were corrected during the inspection. Other issues required verification, and a follow-up inspection was ordered within 10 days.

Clover establishment cited for handwashing supplies

Shriti & Rudravi Clover LLC, at 833 Bethel St., received a B with a score of 97 during an Oct. 15 follow-up inspection. Inspectors found that neither employee handwashing sink had hand-drying supplies available. The violation remained uncorrected during the inspection.

The report also identified holes in kitchen walls that prevented surfaces from being smooth and easily cleanable. Another follow-up inspection was required within 10 days.

Fort Mill restaurant returns to A

Fort Mill Family Restaurant, at 1358 Hwy. 160 E., received a B with a score of 99 on Oct. 15 after inspectors found that sanitizer in a three-compartment sink tested at zero parts per million. The issue remained unresolved during that inspection.

The restaurant received an A with a perfect score of 100 the following day, with no failed items recorded and no additional follow-up required. The Oct. 16 report did repeat an earlier comment about the violation, despite its clean inspection results.
