Price at the Pump: York County gas prices continue falling, with York lowest at $3.27

Four of five York County communities recorded lower regular gasoline prices this week, while AAA reports the Rock Hill metropolitan average fell 13 cents to $3.54 per gallon.

Gasoline prices continued to decline across much of York County this week, with York recording the lowest reported regular gasoline price at $3.27 per gallon, according to GasBuddy.

York's price represented a 20-cent decline from last week's $3.47, the largest decrease among the five York County communities surveyed.

Rock Hill followed at $3.29 per gallon, down 14 cents from last week. Lake Wylie's lowest reported price fell 8 cents to $3.35, while Clover dropped 15 cents to $3.47.

Fort Mill was the lone exception, with its lowest reported price increasing 7 cents to $3.39 per gallon.

Clover remained the most expensive York County community surveyed, although its price was 15 cents lower than a week ago.

The gap between York County's highest and lowest reported prices narrowed to 20 cents, compared with 30 cents last week.

Meanwhile, AAA reported that the average price of regular gasoline across the broader Rock Hill metropolitan area fell to $3.54 per gallon, down 13 cents from a week ago and 39 cents from a month ago.

AAA: Rock Hill metropolitan gas averages

AAA's Rock Hill metropolitan averages provide a broader look at fuel prices, including midgrade, premium and diesel. Unlike GasBuddy's lowest reported prices, these figures reflect average prices across the metropolitan market.

All four fuel categories recorded declines over the past week. Regular gasoline averaged $3.54 per gallon, midgrade $3.97, premium $4.36 and diesel $5.69.

Despite recent declines, gasoline remains considerably more expensive than a year ago. AAA reports that regular gasoline averaged $2.68 per gallon in the Rock Hill metropolitan area at this time last year, compared with $3.54 today — an increase of approximately 86 cents per gallon.

Diesel prices remain particularly elevated, averaging $5.69 per gallon compared with $3.42 a year ago, an increase of approximately $2.27 per gallon.

South Carolina's Lowest Reported Gas Prices

Gasoline prices declined across all five of the other South Carolina markets surveyed this week, with Greenville posting the lowest reported regular gasoline price at $3.17 per gallon.

Greenville and York each recorded 20-cent declines, the largest decreases among the 10 markets surveyed.

Columbia's lowest reported price fell 13 cents to $3.33, while Charleston declined 12 cents to $3.44.

North Myrtle Beach dropped 10 cents to $3.39, and Hilton Head fell 8 cents to $3.45.
