York County Restaurant Inspections: Lake Wylie Pizza York Receives B Grade.

Lake Wylie Pizza York received a B with a score of 82 during a routine inspection, while Hickory Tavern returned to an A

The South Carolina Department of Agriculture conducted 69 food establishment inspections in York County and the surrounding coverage area from Sept. 9 through Sept. 15. All but one resulted in A grades.

Lake Wylie Pizza York received a B during a routine inspection after inspectors cited violations involving bare-hand contact with ready-to-eat food, cold-holding temperatures and date marking. Hickory Tavern in Rock Hill, the only establishment receiving a grade below A in the previous week's report, returned to an A during a follow-up inspection.

Lake Wylie Pizza York received a B with a score of 82 during a Sept. 11 routine inspection.

Inspectors observed an employee cutting and plating a ready-to-eat sandwich without gloves. The violation was corrected during the inspection.

Several foods in a cooler under the grill were also above the required cold-holding temperature, including cooked and cooled vegetables at 48 degrees, cooked and cooled pasta at 45 degrees, sliced tomatoes at 47 degrees and sliced cheese at 51 degrees. Those violations were corrected during the inspection.

Inspectors also found cooked and cooled lasagna without a date mark for disposition. That violation was corrected. The restaurant was unable to provide an aquaculture letter for undercooked salmon at the time of the inspection, which was not corrected and required verification.

Other violations included salmon being thawed in reduced-oxygen packaging instead of being removed from the packaging before thawing, buckets of pizza sauce stored on the floor of the walk-in cooler and a rear entry door that was propped open.

A follow-up inspection was required within 10 days.

Hickory Tavern, 2674 Celanese Road in Rock Hill, returned to an A on Sept. 15, one week after receiving a B with a score of 96 during a follow-up inspection.

The restaurant had been downgraded on Sept. 8 because a priority pest-control violation remained unresolved. Inspectors at that time reported drain flies at the mop sink, around the bar and near the dish pit.
